When They Go Low

by Natalie Mitchell

“When they go low, we go high.”

A party. Compromising pictures. Social media goes wild. School gets involved.

Whilst the girls get a lecture on self-respect and taking responsibility for their actions, the boys who took the pictures have nothing to answer for. Doesn’t quite seem fair…

A forgettable online exchange or a life-altering moment? Is it worth raising your voice when you know it’s not the loudest in the room?

This is a riotous exploration of everyday feminism and friendship – set to a punk soundtrack.

  • Originally meant to be performed at The Egg in May 2020, the production was reimagined as a piece of digital theatre due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Rather than taking place in classrooms and corridors, the action now happens between school hours as the students communicate over Facetime, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. This shift explores how quickly news travels over social media, how far it can spread, and the dangers and power of the internet in a world where we can’t switch off.
